Paul Sparks smashes Cherry Lake

Paul and Anne Sparks have been coming regularly to Cherry Lakes over the last ten years or so. It is always a pleasure to see them.

I was around to say hello when they arrived for their holiday in Heron Lodge on Cherry Lake, but unfortunately I missed most of their stay. A real shame given Paul had an amazing haul of 8 Carp over 30lb. As I am not yet back at home, I am not able to determine how many of these are new entries into this year‘s 30+ catalogue. My best guess is at least 6 of them were.

Paul found two productive spots within Heron’s exclusive water. Feeding our Cherry Red fishmeal boilie with either a ‘match the hatch’ Cherry Red wafter or a bright standout hook bait, Paul celebrated his 75th birthday in real style with his best ever catch result from Cherry Lake.
The biggest Carp of Paul’s haul, was the long mirror known as ‘Ruby’ at 44lb, pictured immediately above. Paul’s new PB and the third different 40lb+ Carp of the year from Cherry Lake.

Paul‘s catch included 3 Commons and 5 Mirrors over 30lb+. The biggest of the 30’s was the Mirror pictured in the lead photo above. This one came in at 39lb.

All of Paul’s 30’s came during the day. He certainly kept Simon busy who kept being called by Paul to photograph another big Carp! We are always pleased to see in the flesh our bigger Carp, it gives us a chance to give them the ‘once over’ as well as ensuring the angler gets some good photos. I was tempted to publish all of Paul’s 30lb+ Carp here, but thought I would be over-indulgent in doing so I have limited myself to just 5!

Paul had two Common’s of around 34lb. The 34-04 Common above has a great shape and I suspect this one will go a lot bigger over the next couple of years.

The 30-12 mirror below caught my eye, as I don’t think I have seen this Carp over 30lb+ before, and I love its scale patterns. Definitely one for me to check on my return
